ASTA Comments to FDA on FSMA Proposed Preventive Controls for Human Food

ASTA was contacted in August 2024 by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), which was seeking to obtain perspectives from various food safety stakeholders on FDA's implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). In collaboration with ASTA members and the association's General Counsel, ASTA provided the following feedback on the Preventive Controls for Human Foods Rule (Section 103), Sanitary Transportation Rule (Section 111), and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (Section 301).

ASTA issued comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in January 2014 on the "Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals," urging flexibility and risk-based approaches, particularly in hazard analysis and evaluation.
