ASTA Request to Extend the Comment Deadline on EPA's Proposed Interim Decision for EtO

This document is a letter submitted to the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) on its proposed development of an oral No Significant Risk Level (NRSL) for ethylene oxide (EtO). ASTA supported the development of an oral NSRL for EtO as oral and inhalation exposures are significantly different.

ASTA provided comments to the Spices Board of India in May 2024 highlighting the regulatory acceptance of EtO as a fumigant in the U.S., as well as the importance of EtO as a food safety tool. The comments note that both the U.S. FDA and U.S. EPA have determined that residues of EtO in spices are safe for consumption.
