This is Part 1 for this three-part webinar.
Part 1 - PFAS continues to be an area of growing attention for the botanical, tea, and spice industries, making collaboration across the supply chain more important than ever. Presented jointly by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), American Spice Trade Association (ASTA), Tea & Herbal Association of Canada, Tea Association of the USA, and the UK Tea & Infusions Association, this webinar will provide a practical introduction to PFAS, including what these chemicals are and where they may be encountered throughout the supply chain, from agricultural inputs to packaging. Attendees will also receive an update on the evolving regulatory landscape, including upcoming European Union requirements taking effect in August, as well as industry efforts to advance sound science, share best practices, and support practical, risk-based approaches to PFAS management.

List of U.S. pesticide tolerances
The presence of pesticide chemical residues in foods, such as spices, is regulated under section 408 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended (FFDCA). The permissible level of pesticide chemical residue allowed in or on foods or feed is governed by either a pesticide tolerance or an exemption from tolerance. If a food contains a pesticide residue for which no tolerance or exemption from tolerance has been established, it is adulterated within the meaning of section 402 of the FFDCA and is subject to enforcement action. ASTA has published a list of U.S. pesticide tolerances that are established for spices and herbs by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under 40CFR180. This list is intended to facilitate compliance with U.S. tolerances.
2022 FDA Pesticide Monitoring Program Screening List
Following the 2022 Regulatory workshop panel on testing and screening for pesticide residues in spices, panelist Jon Wong, FDA, shared a list detailing the 377 pesticides that FDA tests for in its multi-residue screen as part of its pesticide monitoring program.
