Coalition Comments to FDA Requesting Sesame Labeling Compliance Date Clarification
ASTA signed onto FBIA coalition comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2022, requesting that the FDA clarify that the compliance date under the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research Act (FASTER) means that food products containing sesame must be labeled with a sesame allergen statement on or after January 1, 2021 and that products labeled before that do not need to be in compliance with the FASTER Act.

In August 2025, ASTA signed onto comments written by the Food & Beverage Issue Alliance (FBIA) encouraging FDA to leverage a science-driven, iterative approach for the prioritization of chemicals for post-market assessments. The comments call for FDA to place greater weight on public health risk-related factors, differentiate prioritization and assessment frameworks between intentionally added substances and contaminants, and to enhance transparency and stakeholder engagement opportunities.
ASTA Letter to Senator Durbin in Support of Proposed Food Safety Legislation
ASTA sent a letter to Senator Durbin in March 2009 supporting legislation to reform the food safety system, providing comments on specific provisions included in the bill and offering to work with the Senator's staff on modifications that would facilitate implementation and assure the objectives are met.
