FDA published a new method for detecting filth in saffron following ASTA’s recent meeting with the agency about the increased inspection and detention of saffron shipments for economically motivated adulteration.

FDA has been working towards a phase-out of certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used in food packaging and is monitoring progress by sampling packaging collected during routine domestic food facility inspections.
