ASTA Comments on EU Tariff Concessions
ASTA issued a letter to Anita Thomas, Secretary, Office of Europe and the Mediterranean U.S. Trade Representative, in September 2004. The letter objects to the proposed inclusion of 3 product categories on the list of goods for which tariff concessions may be withdrawn, and duties may be increased in the event the US and EU cannot reach an agreement for adequate compensation owed under WTO rules as a result of EU enlargement and changes to its rice import regime.
Multi-Industry Letter to White House on Port Negotiations
ASTA signed onto a coalition letter from multiple industries to President Biden and Vice President Harris in March 2022, imploring their early and persistent engagement in the impending contract negotiations between the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), encouraging a timely and satisfactory resolution that advances the needs of both the workers and the ports in order to avoid further backups, delays, and higher costs.
